Mission Statement:
Amigos Radio Club Ashtabula is an organization of radio operators from all walks of life that have come together to expand, educate, enrich and have fun with the radio communications and the amateur radio hobby.
Classes and Training
Amigos Radio Club Ashtabula offers basic radio use classes and training, testing and FCC licensing support for anyone wanting to become a licensed armature radio operator. Classes are based on the current books offered by the ARRL and the The Amateur’s Code by Paul M. Segal, W9EEA (1928) The Radio Amateur is: CONSIDERATE, LOYAL, PROGRESSIVE, FRIENDLY, BALANCED and PATRIOTIC.
Emergency and Community Services
Amigos Radio Club Ashtabula believes in being good stewards in our community. To that end Amigos Radio Club Ashtabula maintains trained operators to assist in programs like SKYWARN Amateur Radio Network and ARES for communications duty in the public service when disaster strikes.
Amigos Radio Club Ashtabula is also available to assist with communications involving fairs, festivals, bike rides and other community activities.
Having Fun
Probably more than any other part of this hobby. Having fun is the most important. Hobbies should be fun. Amigos Radio Club Ashtabula participates in summer and winter field day, Global DXing and other contests, as well as hosting other fun activities like fox hunts, radio relays, yearly picnics, etc..
Veteran and Youth Outreach
The Amigos Radio Club Ashtabula provides training, FCC licensing support and equipment to veterans and under privilege youth.
Our retired and recently discharged veterans often find themselves without a comfortable out reach to others. PTSD, financial hardship, disabilities and other factors often lead to veterans seclusion. Amateur radio helps provide veterans with an outlet both as a hobby and a means to communicate. Amigos Radio Club Ashtabula assists with these efforts by providing amateur radio training, FCC licensing support and equipment to veterans.
Amigos Radio Club Ashtabula also sees our young people as our most valuable asset for the future of the amateur radio hobby. Amateur radio helps provide a foundation and understanding of radio, digital and telecommunications technologies. Amigos Radio Club Ashtabula recognizes that the expense of equipment and lack of access to educational resources can be a hurdle not only to entering into radio communications as a hobby but advancing beyond to a career level. This is epically true in under-served rural and urban communities. Amigos Radio Club Ashtabula assists with these efforts by providing amateur radio training, FCC licensing support and equipment to youth in these areas.
